Chandigarh, Dec 21 – Haryana Police has arrested a person for demanding Rs 20-lakh ransom from a building material merchant over phone call in Kurukshetra district.
Sharing the details, a Haryana Police spokesperson informed that the caller had threatened to kill the victim if he failed to comply with his demand of Rs20-lakh.
Jagpreet Singh, who owns a building and construction material shop in Ladwa, lodged a complaint about the ransom and threatening call with the police. In his complaint, he informed that he received a phone call from a stranger on the night of November 18, 2021 and the suspect demanded Rs20-lakh ransom. The caller also threatened to kill him if he didn't pay the money.
A police team formed to crack the case had traced the caller and finally nabbed the accused Vinod alias Shoki, a resident of district Kurukshetra.
A case has been registered and accused taken on remand by producing in the court. Further investigation into the case is underway.
