1993 Bombing: ED claims evidence of Nawab Malik’s involvement

The Enforcement Directorate is relying on a document to link Maharashtra minister Nawab Malik to 1993 Mumbai serial blasts convict Sardar Shahwali Khan, as the political debate surrounding his arrest heats up.

According to insiders, the paper reveals that Malik and his son Faraz did not fall victim to forgery or extortion by Shahwali Khan as stated, but instead struck a deal with the convict for a house worth Rs 300 crore in Mumbai's Kurla for a stupidly low price. Khan has certified the paper, which is a leasing agreement between Khan and the Malik family's Solidus Investment Pvt Ltd.

Solidus's convenor, Malik's son Faraz, signed the instrument on his behalf. In a statement recorded with the ED, Khan, who is serving a life sentence, attested to the agreement.

Malik's lawyer has rebutted the ED's charge of ties between Malik and Khan by claiming that the minister was a victim of Khan's deception, in which Khan pretended to be the owner of a property that belonged to one Munira Plumber.
