Over 4,000 Security Personnel deployed to ensure peaceful Elections in Mohali

In preparation for the upcoming elections in Mohali, District Electoral Officer and Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain announced that the movement of cash, drugs, liquor, and valuable goods would be closely monitored. Over 4,000 security personnel, including district police, paramilitary, and reserve forces, will be deployed to ensure the safety and fairness of the polling process, stated Mohali Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sandeep Kumar Garg.

Extensive security arrangements

Briefing the media on Tuesday, SSP Garg detailed the security plans for the next 72 hours. “Over 4,000 police personnel will be deployed under an advanced plan. Additionally, 70 patrolling teams will be active round the clock,” he said. Paramilitary forces will be stationed at the district's borders, and support from police in Ambala and Panchkula has been requested to seal the interstate borders effectively.

SSP Garg highlighted the importance of finalizing the deployment plan within 48 hours before polling begins. “We are working to ensure paramilitary forces are present at all polling stations,” he added. There will be strict monitoring of 89 vulnerable polling booths across 33 locations.

Additional precautions and health measures

So far, ₹12 crore and 56 weapons have been recovered through efforts by the district administration and police teams. District Electoral Officer Aashika Jain emphasized that any movement of cash, drugs, liquor, and precious goods will be meticulously monitored.

To address heatwave concerns, ASHA workers have been trained and will be equipped with first-aid kits on polling day to assist anyone suffering from heat stroke. Jain also mentioned that health facilities have been mapped from polling booths to ensure quick transportation to the nearest medical center if needed.

These comprehensive measures aim to secure a free and fair election in Mohali, ensuring the safety and integrity of the polling process.
