A bridge under construction in Samba, Jammu and Kashmir, collapsed, injuring 27 people.

Officials said that the iron shuttering over an under-construction bridge in Jammu and Kashmir's Samba district fell on Sunday, injuring at least 27 workers.

The Border Roads Organisation is building a huge bridge over the Devika river near Ramgarh-Koulpur, according to officials.

Around 4.15 p.m., the iron shuttering linking two of the many pillars caved in, hurting a total of 27 workers.

Officials said that a rescue operation was immediately launched and that all of the injured, some of whom were also trapped under the debris, were evacuated to various hospitals, with two of them being deemed "critical" and referred to the Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu for specialised treatment.

Anuradha Gupta, Deputy Commissioner, Samba, hurried to the accident scene to monitor the rescue operation and afterwards inquired about the condition of the injured, who were being treated at the Community Health Centre Ramgarh and the trauma centre Vijaypur.

"During the concrete slab installation, the iron shuttering fell. A rescue operation was initiated right away, and all 27 workers were transported to nearby hospitals "she stated

Except for two, Ms Gupta said the remainder of the injured were in stable condition and were being monitored in hospitals.

The deputy commissioner stated, "Our priority was the rescue operation...an inquiry will be performed tomorrow (Monday) to look into the reason of the tragedy."
