Ahmet Calik, a former Turkey defender, died in a car accident

Former Turkey defender Ahmet Calik was on his way to Ankara from Konya, where he is currently residing, to deal with paperwork in preparation for his wedding, according to reports. Calik died in a traffic accident, according to Anadolu, citing his childhood friend Onder Eryildirim.

Ahmet Calik, a former Turkey national soccer team defender, died in a car accident outside Ankara on Tuesday, according to his current club. Calik, a 27-year-old Ittifak Holding Konyaspor player, was killed after losing control of his car in slick circumstances, according to the state-run Anadolu Agency. The car flipped over and landed in a field.

He was travelling to Ankara from Konya, where he is currently living, to deal with paperwork in preparation for his wedding, according to Anadolu, citing his boyhood buddy Onder Eryildirim. Calik began his career with Genclerbirligi in Ankara before joining Galatasaray in 2017. In the year 2020, he joined Konyaspor.

According to the Fanatik newspaper, he has represented Turkey eight times since 2015.

In a statement, Konyaspor president Fahih Ozgokcen said, “I am heartbroken by the loss of my brother Ahmet, this wonderful guy who made profound impressions on me with his gentlemanly posture, his humanism, his private life and character.”
