Amit Shah

PM Modi is committed to ensure speedy justice to all the citizens of India

Amit Shah has asked the CJ for advice on how to change criminal legislation

In his letter, Shah stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is “dedicated to ensuring prompt justice to all people of India, particularly those belonging to the poorer and disadvantaged sections” under his leadership.

In his letter at the end of the year, Shah stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government “is committed to ensuring prompt justice to all residents of India, particularly those belonging to the poorer and backward classes.”

“In line with these constitutional and democratic ideals, the Indian government has decided to make significant changes to the criminal justice system.” Seven decades of Indian democracy demand that our criminal laws, particularly the Indian Penal Code (IPC) 1860, the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) 1973, and the Indian Evidence Act 1872, be thoroughly reviewed and adapted to meet the requirements and ambitions of our people.”

The “effort to bring about a paradigm shift in the criminal justice system” is a “enormous exercise in public involvement, which can only be achieved with the cooperation of all stakeholders,” according to Shah. He went on to say that the Ministry of Home Affairs “intends to make extensive revisions to criminal laws in response to requests from diverse stakeholders.”

Members of Parliament have a “major role in the law-making process,” he said, and their proposals “will be invaluable in this exercise.”

He requested that MPs submit their ideas for modifications to the IPC, CrPC, and Evidence Act “as soon as possible.”

The review procedure is not given a precise timeline in the letter.
