As India passes the 150 million COVID vaccination mark, PM praises citizens

Prime Minister Narendra Modi commended the country on reaching the Covid-19 vaccination milestone of 150 crores.

PM Modi says, "A remarkable day on the vaccination front. Congratulations to our fellow citizens on crossing the 150 crore milestone. Our vaccination drive has ensured that many lives are saved. At the same time, let us also keep following all Covid-19 related protocols."

"India is grateful to all those who have been working to make our vaccination drive a success. We thank our doctors, scientists, innovators, and the health care workers who are vaccinating the people. I urge all those eligible to get their shots. Together, let’s fight Covid-19," he further said.

Meanwhile, according to data issued by the Union health ministry on Friday, India has seen a tremendous increase in Covid-19 instances, with over 1 lakh (1,17,100) cases reported.

On June 6 of last year, India reported more than 1 lakh daily Covid instances for the first time. This exponential growth is thought to be caused by the new Omicron variety. Over the last week, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported a new high of 9.5 million Covid-19 cases. The number of weekly recorded deaths, on the other hand, has decreased.
