Assembly Elections 2022: All parties favor conducting the UP elections on time
Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra announced during a press conference in Lucknow on Thursday that the state’s forthcoming assembly elections would not be postponed. All political parties’ representatives met with us and advised us that elections should be held on time and in accordance with all Covid-19 protocols.
After the Allahabad High Court ordered Prime Minister Narendra Modi to postpone the Uttar Pradesh elections due to an increase in Covid cases caused by the new Omicron strain, the election commission team travelled to the state.
All parties, including the ruling BJP, the Samajwadi Party, the Congress, and the Bahujan Samaj Party, have stated that the elections must be held on schedule. Voting will be held from 8am to 6pm on the date of polling and voting will be available from home for individuals over the age of 80, those with disabilities, and those affected by Covid, says Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra.
