According to authorities, 119 students and staff members at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Hyderabad campus have tested positive for Covid in the last week.

Between January 5 and 9, 58 persons, including 17 students, were tested positive on campus.

On Tuesday, 22 undergraduate students, 14 postgraduate students, seven research scholars, one regular employee, and one outsourced plumber at IIT-Hyderabad tested positive.

Instead of establishing a separate isolation facility for the sick, students claim that they are forced to live on the upper floors of hostel buildings, causing annoyance to others. According to a student who requested anonymity, all requests for permission to leave campus have been put on hold.

"I sought permission to leave home soon after the first positive case was reported at the institute," another student explained. However, no answer has been received from the relevant authorities thus far. It isn't offered lightly," says the narrator.

The claims were disputed by B S Murty, director of the IITH, who stated that all essential rules are being followed for the protection of people on campus.

"We've set up isolation on the upper floors of the dormitories, and those who have tested positive are not allowed to leave." Medicines and food are sent to their homes, and their health is monitored on a regular basis," Murty said, adding that students who wish to leave the campus may do so.
