Ballon d'Or winner Lionel Messi tests corona positive

Lionel Messi has been placed in self-isolation, according to his club, Paris Saint-Germain, after testing positive for Covid-19. Four PSG players tested positive for the virus ahead of a French Cup match against Vannes. Since his tearful departure from Barcelona last summer, the Argentinian star has had a rocky start in Paris. Messi has five goals in the Champions League, despite only scoring once in the league in 11 games for PSG. Juan Bernat, Sergio Rico, and Nathan Bitumazala were among the other players that tested positive.

“He’ll be out of Monday’s cup encounter, as well as PSG’s first Ligue 1 fixture following the winter break, against Lyon on Sunday. They are currently respecting isolation and are subject to the appropriate health protocols,” PSG said.
