Platinum pudding competition
Queen Elizabeth

To celebrate her majesty's 70-year reign

Buckingham Palace has announced a “Pudding Contest"

A pudding contest will be held in the United Kingdom to commemorate Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee – she has contributed 70 years of service and time to the crown. This signifies that the monarch will be honoured with her own dessert.

The celebration is slated to take place from June 2 to 5, 2022, over a long weekend that will allow people from all over the country to attend.

According to a report by People, Buckingham Palace announced that the baking competition will honour the 95-year-old with a brand new pudding, and that the Big Jubilee Lunch and Fortnum & Mason have invited people aged eight and up to “create the perfect platinum pudding recipe.”

Only five contestants will advance to the final round, when they will submit their desserts to a judging panel that includes Dame Mary Berry, former Great British Bake Off judge Monica Galetti, and Buckingham Palace Head Chef Mark Flanagan, according to the story.

The winning recipe will be made available to the general public and will be served throughout the Jubilee weekend lunches.

According to the royal.uk website, the queen will be the first British monarch to commemorate a Platinum Jubilee. At the age of 25, she ascended to the throne on February 6, 1952.

Other festivities include: trooping the colour, lighting of the Platinum Jubilee beacons, Thanksgiving service at St Paul’s Cathedral, a live concert named “Platinum Party at the Palace,” Big Jubilee supper, and Platinum Jubilee pageant, among others.
