Electric vehicles in India: the most viable future option?

In 2010, the government announced financial incentives for makers of electric vehicles sold in India as part of a Rs 95 billion scheme approved by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).

Since then, the national government has taken a number of efforts, first under Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and later under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to encourage more Indians to choose electric vehicles.

People in India are now ready to switch to electric vehicles, and various carmakers are digging deep to get one on the road as soon as possible. Tata which launched Nexon EV in January 2020 has sold over 4500 units and has gained the title of the best electric car in India.

Is India ready for EV’s?

India will become the world’s No. 1 electric car manufacturer, according to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, but I don’t believe it will become the world’s No. 1 consumer any time soon. Because individuals in India have yet to upgrade their BS-III automobiles, which is a major disappointment.
