‘Immunity up’: Drink of the month is a must-try; find out what it is
There is no better time to enhance the body’s immunity than now, as Omicron and Covid-19 cases continue to grow, along with seasonal ailments including colds, coughs, and the flu. While preventative steps should always be taken, many home treatments can also be quite helpful. As a result, actor Malavika Mohanan recently revealed how she uses ginger-turmeric tea to boost her immunity.
“Ginger-turmeric tea appears to be the drink of the month,” says one observer.
While immunity cannot be established overnight, scientists believe that adopting healthy lifestyle behaviours can help pave the road forward.
“Because of its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, medicinal, and therapeutic characteristics, ginger tea has remained an age-old ayurvedic treatment.” In an earlier post, dietician Garima Goyal stated that gingerol, a crucial phytonutrient found in ginger, “maintains a healthy microbiota and prevents stomach disorders.” Ginger is also supposed to help prevent nausea and calm an upset stomach as one of the most effective herbs. Ginger also helps to keep the body warm by breaking down toxins that have accumulated in the body.
Turmeric contains curcumin, a powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory substance. It also has antiviral, antifungal, and antibacterial qualities, which help the body’s immune system function better.
What is the best way to make it?
Ingredients
½ inch – Ginger
½ tsp – Turmeric powder
¼ tsp – Black pepper powder
1.5 cups – Water
Method
*Bring water to a boil in a saucepan, then add the remaining ingredients. Bring everything to a boil for at least 10 minutes, or until the ginger flavor has infused into the drink.
* Strain the tea into a cup and, if desired, add honey and lemon. Enjoy!
