In March-April 2022, the government intends to organize 5G spectrum auctions.

In 2022, big cities will be the first to get 5G, according to the Department of Transportation.

The Department of Transportation asked TRAI for advice on the reserve price, band plan, block size, and quantum of spectrum to be auctioned in September of this year.

According to an official statement released by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), metros and major cities such as Gurugram, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Mumbai, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, and Pune will be the first to receive 5G services next year.

TRAI, for one, has begun discussions with industry players on the subject.

"In terms of 5G service deployment, Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) M/s Bharti Airtel, M/s Reliance Jio, and M/s Vodafone Idea have established 5G testing sites in Gurugram, Bangalore, Kolkata, Mumbai, Chandigarh, Delhi, Jamnagar, Ahmadabad, Chennai, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Pune, and Gandhi Nagar."

These metros and major cities will be the first to receive 5G services in the country next year, according to the announcement.

Experts have stated that there is a need for regulatory clarity in the 5G implementation.

"Right now, the most essential item that needs to be clarified is on the regulatory side." It involves the licensing of the spectrum in order to make it available and on fair and acceptable conditions. Each country must establish what it is specifically.

The question of whether spectrum pricing is too high has been debated.

And I believe there are many things that can be done to ensure that money is available to build coverage for the Indian people," said Magnus Ewerbring, Ericsson's chief technology officer for the Asia Pacific, in a recent interview.

"As soon as it happens, 5G will move at a breakneck pace." The devices are ready, and the service providers are ready as well. He went on to say, "We need clarity on what frequency bands and other terms and conditions."
