In Tamil Nadu, a video of a temple being demolished has sparked debate, but cops have clarified the situation.
Following the demolition of a temple in Tamil Nadu's Tambaram near Chennai, video clips on social media claiming the demolished structure was a Ram temple have gone viral. In a video clip uploaded by Indu Makkal Katchi, a pro-Hindu organisation, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government was accused of uprooting the Ram temple in Tambaram.
In response to the outcry, the Tambaram Commissioner emphasised that, in accordance with the Madras High Court's ruling in 2015, additional structures were also being demolished alongside the temple. Structures built over water sources that have been designated as encroachments are being dismantled, according to the police. The police advised people to stay away from videos containing malicious content and bogus news.
Not only the temple, but also a piece of the church compound was demolished, according to Tambaram police commissioner M Ravi. Ravi emphasised that anyone who disrupted communal harmony would face severe consequences. 'In addition to the temple, a part of a church complex wall was dismantled because it encroached on a water body.' According to Ravi, a case has been filed based on the Tahsildar's complaint, and those who attempt to break communal unity will face severe consequences.
