state elections are unlikely to be postponed.
In the midst of the Omicron scare, state elections are unlikely to be postponed.
Despite the fact that cases of the new Omicron variety are on the rise across the country, according to sources on Monday the upcoming five state elections are unlikely to be postponed.
This comes after the Election Commission met with the Union Health Secretary to discuss the COVID-19 situation in the poll-bound states.
Before the term of the state assemblies ends, the Election Commission is expected to stick to the schedule and follow the constitutional mandate of polls. Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Goa, Uttarakhand, and Manipur are all holding elections.
The term of the Goa assembly expires on March 15, the term of the Manipur legislature ends on March 19, and the term of the Uttar Pradesh assembly ends on May 14.
As the number of Omicron cases rises, the Election Commission met with the Health Secretary today to discuss vaccine coverage and infections, according to sources. The Election Commission also highlighted the importance of following the Covid protocol to the letter.
