J&K encounter: Jaish terrorist shot down, cop killed in action

In an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam area on Wednesday, a Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terrorist and a police officer were killed, while five others, including three troops, were injured.

Two bystanders were also injured in the incident, according to police.

Late in the evening, Inspector General of Police (Kashmir Zone) Vijay Kumar tweeted, "One police personnel Sg Ct Rohit Chhib attained martyrdom, three Army soldiers got injured. Two civilians also got minor injuries. One terrorist of terror outfit JeM killed. Operation continues."

Officials claimed the clash began as security forces conducted a joint operation in the Pariwan area of Kulgam district after receiving information about the presence of terrorists there.

After militants opened fire on security officers, the search escalated into an altercation.

The mission is still ongoing.

In the previous 12 days, eight encounters in Kashmir have resulted in the deaths of 14 terrorists.
