According to data from the Union Health Ministry, India has reported 236 instances of the Omicron form of coronavirus across 16 states and UTs, with 104 persons recovering or migrating.
Maharashtra has the most cases of the Omicron variety with 65, followed by Delhi with 64, Telangana with 24, Karnataka with 19, Rajasthan with 21, and Kerala with 15.
At 6.30 p.m., Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a meeting to discuss the Covid-19 situation in the country. Thursday, amid new worries raised by the Omicron strain of the coronavirus.
The Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) announced on Wednesday that no Christmas or New Year celebrations will be permitted in the city. According to the DDMA, all social, political, sporting, entertainment, cultural, and religious events are outlawed, and no gatherings are permitted.
There have been 213 cases in India this far.
The Centre said the Omicron variant of the coronavirus is at least three times more transmissible than the Delta variant urged states and union territories to "activate" war rooms, continue to analyse even minor trends and surges, and execute tight and quick containment measures at the district and local levels in a statement to states and union territories on Tuesday.
There have been calls for the government to allow booster vaccination doses to be given to people who have already been completely immunised against COVID-19, as many other countries have done.
