Today, the Prime Minister also paid a floral tribute to Shahid Smarak at Meerut, Uttar Pradesh.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday (January 2, 2021) visited the Augurnath temple in Uttar Pradesh`s Meerut to offer prayers. PM Modi was accompanied by Uttar Pradesh`s Governor Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Following that, the prime minister paid a visit to the Government Freedom Struggle Museum in Meerut's Shaheed Smarak.

According to a statement released by the Prime Minister's Office, the university will be built at a cost of around Rs 700 crore in the villages of Salawa and Kaili in Sardhana town in Meerut.

According to the PMO, the creation of Major Dhyan Chand Sports University in Meerut will be a significant step toward realizing this ambition. Synthetic Hockey, Football, Basketball, Volleyball, Handball, Kabaddi, Lawn tennis court, Gymnasium hall, Synthetic running stadium, Swimming pool, Multipurpose hall, and a Cycling Velodrome will be part of the Sports University's sophisticated and state-of-the-art sports infrastructure. It will also feature shooting, squash, gymnastics, weightlifting, archery, canoeing, and kayaking facilities, among others, with a capacity to train 1080 athletes, including 540 females and 540 males.
