PM exhorts proactive, pre-emptive, communal strategy to tackle Covid: "Stay aware, don't panic."

 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with chief ministers on Thursday to discuss the Covid-19 situation in the country, which has seen an increase in cases due to the Omicron form. The meeting, which was place via video conference, was also attended by Home Minister Amit Shah and Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya.

"We must remain vigilant, but we must also take care not to create a panic," the PM stated, adding that it is critical to protect the economy and livelihood of ordinary people when developing Covid plans. 

To avoid an alarming situation, Modi reminded the chief ministers that a 'proactive, pre-emptive, coordinated' strategy is required. 

"The faster we offer precaution doses to front-line personnel and senior citizens, the more secure our healthcare system will become," the PM stated, adding that "the faster we give precaution doses to front-line workers and senior citizens, the more secure our healthcare system will become."

We vaccinated approximately 3 million adolescents in just ten days, demonstrating India's potential and readiness to meet this challenge: Over 92 percent of India's eligible population received the initial treatment, according to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Nearly 70% of those who were eligible for the second dose received it as well. India has already vaccinated over 3 crore youngsters aged 15 to 18 years: PM

We need to be ready for any future variations of this virus, in addition to fighting Omicron, PM Modi stated at the review meeting with the CMs. 

The Centre's Rs 23,000 crore package to states has been well utilised, with many states improving their health infrastructure. This time, too, the centre and states must take a preventative, collaborative, and proactive approach: PM

The meeting takes place on the same day that India recorded 2,47,417 new infections, the highest in 236 days, bringing the total number of infections to 3.6 crore, including 5,488 Omicron cases. According to data from the Union Health Ministry, the active caseload is presently 11,17,531.

To combat the spread of the highly transmissible virus, new restrictions have been implemented in several sections of the country. At a high-level meeting on Sunday, the Prime Minister discussed the Covid issue and urged for better health infrastructure at the district level as well as a faster immunisation effort for teenagers in mission mode.

The immunisation campaign for healthcare and frontline workers, as well as individuals over 60 years old with comorbidities, has begun. 

Vaccination, according to the PM, is still one of the most effective ways to combat Covid.
