Police have arrested 36 people in Noida, including five women, for sex trafficking

Police stated on Thursday that 36 persons, including five women, were arrested from two hotels in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, for alleged illicit sex trading and breaking COVID-19 laws.

The arrests were made on Wednesday night following raids. According to them, one of the jailed ladies is of Nepali descent.

A search was carried out at a hotel in Sector Beta 2 on the basis of a tip-off, according to Vishal Pandey, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Greater Noida). According to him, two ladies and the hotel's owner were arrested for shady behavior.

Mr. Pandey said, "One of the women is a foreign national. Further inquiry from them led the police to another hotel in Sector Sigma 1, where three more women were found."

"Altogether, 36 people, including five women, have been arrested during the raids at the two hotels. Police have also seized ₹ 1.30 lakh cash, liquor bottles, wrist watches, etc and impounded eight cars," he further said.

According to the police, the accused have been charged with illegal sex trade and disobedience to a duly issued public servant order, as well as sections 188 (disobedience to a duly issued public servant order), 269 (unlawfully or negligently spreading infection of any disease dangerous to life), and 270 (malignant act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life) of the Indian Penal Code.

Because the number of current COVID-19 cases in Gautam Buddh Nagar has surpassed 1,000, the night curfew has been extended from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Large public meetings have also been banned, and COVID-appropriate behavior in public spaces has been regulated.
