Krafton, the creator of the famous game ‘PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds’ (PUBG), has sued Apple and Google. Apple and Google have angered Krafton for their stance on Garena’s Free Fire game. While Krafon’s PUBG was the most popular game in 2021 in terms of monthly active users, Garena Free Fire was the most popular in terms of downloads. This is the crux of the conflict:

What exactly is the point of contention?

The issue is over the Free Fire game from Singapore-based company Garena.

Why does the creator of PUBG want Garena Free Fire to be banned?

PUBG creator Krafton claims the game plagiaries several copyrighted parts of PUBG: Battlegrounds, such as the game’s structure and in-game objects, equipment, and locales.

What is Garena’s relationship with Apple and Google? Fire is allowed to burn freely.

Apple and Google, according to Krafton, have refused to discontinue the game’s distribution. According to the lawsuit, Garena, which is owned by Singapore-based Sea Ltd, began selling Free Fire in the app stores of Apple and Google in 2017. The two companies also began selling “Free Fire MAX,” an infringing game, in 2021.

YouTube is also mentioned in the PUBG complaint.

Krafton also accused Google’s YouTube of posting Free Fire gameplay footage, as well as a Chinese film it claims is a live-action dramatization of their game.

What Apple, Google, and Garena want from Krafton

In December 2021, Krafton has urged Garena, Apple, and Google to stop selling the Free Fire games. None of the corporations, however, agreed to the demand. The creator of PUBG has now sought a court to halt sales of the Free Fire games. It has also claimed damages for the corporations’ revenues from the sale of Free Fire.

In addition, PUBG has launched a lawsuit against Fortnite.

It’s worth noting that this isn’t the first time PUBG’s creators have taken legal action against a rival battle royale game. In 2018, Krafton filed a lawsuit against Fortnite to “defend copyright.”
