Vaccigen, a Canadian subsidiary of Bharat Biotech’s American partner, Ocugen, submitted Covaxin to the Canadian government on June 30, 2021.
However, it is unclear when or if the Covid-19 vaccine will be approved for use in Canada by regulators. “A decision will be made once Health Canada has thoroughly analyzed all of the required material,” the department stated in a tweet on Thursday. It’s impossible to say when a regulatory decision will be made because the review is still in progress.”
According to Health Canada, it conducts independent evaluations of vaccine applications and approves goods based on “scientific rigor and medical evidence.”
The World Health Organization (WHO) approved Covaxin for use in an emergency in November 2021. It is recognised for travel purposes in Canada, which began accepting persons with two doses of Covaxin as completely vaccinated on November 30.
Only two vaccinations, those manufactured by Pfizer and Moderna, are currently available for administration in Canada, and these two have accounted for roughly 66 million of the 72 million inoculations administered thus far, including boosters.
