The police are on the search for Malayalam vlogger Sreekanth Vettiyar after a woman filed an official complaint accusing him of rape at the Ernakulam Central police station. On January 9, the survivor wrote about the incident on a Facebook page called 'Women Against Sexual Harassment.' When TNM contacted them, the survivor informed us that they have not yet spoken to the media.
The survivor wrote in the post that she had known Vettiyar for a long time and that he had invited her to a flat to celebrate his birthday, where she was raped. She was also abused and manipulated on a number of occasions, she said in the article, in terms of money, mental health, and emotional well-being. The woman also claimed that he used his celebrity to manipulate his admirers in the #MeToo post.
This was not, however, the only criticism levelled at Vettiyar. Several other tweets have been made accusing him of sexually assaulting women. The same social media page had published a third women's post with the phrase "This post is from a different person who approached us"; A third lady said that Vettiyar had abused one of her friends in a social media post.
When TNM contacted the Ernakulam Central Police Station, it was told that he had not yet been apprehended and that a FIR had been filed under section 376 (2)(n) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) (commits rape repeatedly on the same victim), and that an investigation was underway.
Sreekanth Vettiyar is a content producer who is well-known for his social media page 'Vettiyar Trolls.' He is well-known for his 'political correctness.' He was also the former administrator of the prominent Facebook page 'ICU,' which the survivor claims she knew Vettiyar through.
