Glenn Maxwell of Australia was at his ruthless best when he smashed a record-breaking 154 off just 64 balls to help his Melbourne Stars to 273/2, the highest total in the Big Bash League’s history. As he became the first player in Big Bash history to hit 150 runs, records and milestones were smashed at his feet. Maxwell hit a half-century in just 20 balls and a century in 41 balls as the Hobart Hurricanes bowlers strewn their deliveries all over the field. On his way to 154, the Australian hitter hit 22 fours and four sixes. Marcus Stoinis hit 75 off 31 balls, but the Maxwell performance stole the show.
Maxwell’s timing couldn’t have been better, as this was his 100th BBL match, and one he’ll remember for the rest of his life. Craig Simmons’ record of achieving a century in 39 balls stayed maintained, while Maxwell needed 41 balls to complete his, making him the second fastest man to score a century in BBL history.
“A lot of things have to go right for something like that to happen,” he said after the first innings. “I had amazing support the whole way through… it’s still a nice feeling to close this tournament with a really nice innings.”
