In Punjab, the seat sharing formula has been decided between the BJP, Punjab Lok Congress and Dhindsa’s party. The BJP will fight for 65 seats in Punjab. The Captain’s Punjab Lok Congress will contest 37 seats, and Sukhdev Dhindsa’s Shiromani Akali Dal (Sanyukt) will contest 15 seats. This was announced by BJP National President JP Nadda in Delhi on Monday. During this, Captain Amarinder Singh and Sukhdev Dhindsa were also present. This alliance has declared candidates for 71 seats out of 117. As nominations are starting in Punjab tomorrow, the alliance is busy finalizing the election strategy at a fast pace.

“Punjab needs special attention. Security is a very important issue. This election is for stability and safety. Our motto is to bring back Punjab on track… Prime Minister Narendra Modi has constituted SIT to probe the 1984 riots & today accused are in jails. We will abolish ‘Mafia Raj’ in Punjab,” JP Nadda said.

Amarinder Singh announced his decision to fight from his home constituency of Patiala Urban. His party released the first list of 22 candidates for polls. In the meantime, the BJP has released its first list of 34 candidates for the Punjab assembly elections.

The Congress achieved an absolute majority in the 2017 Punjab Assembly elections, winning 77 seats and deposing the SAD-BJP government after ten years in power. In the 117-member Punjab Legislative Assembly, the Aam Aadmi Party emerged as the second-largest party, with 20 seats. Only 15 seats were won by the SAD, while the BJP won three.

On February 20, Punjab will have elections. The counting of votes will take place on 10th March.
