Drones manufactured by Drones Tech Lab, a start-up from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati, will perform a drone display during the Republic-Day event in Kamrup, the first of its type in the north-east region.

Drones built by the IIT Guwahati start-up Drones Tech Lab have provided answers in a variety of fields, including disaster management, agriculture, surveying, and mapping.

Over the years, these drones have been credited with assisting in the resolution of several major difficulties in India's North East and Eastern regions. First, there's the matter of Majuli's constant flooding, which not only causes loss of life and property but also erodes a large portion of the island. Second, every year, the Kolkata Municipal Corporation suffers dengue fever outbreaks, which result in the loss of lives.

To address these issues, a drone-based mapping system was implemented, together with post-process kinematics, to aid absolute accuracy and eliminate the necessity for GCPs (Ground Control Points). They covered 5–6 sq. km in one day using this drone solution, along with mapping payload and GIS (Geographical Information System) software, compared to 1–1.5 sq. km using traditional methods. They also used a mix of mapping drone and heavy payload drone solutions that could spray 10–16 litres of liquid uniformly over 6–7 acres of land in 9–10 minutes.

Prof. TG Sitharam, Director, IIT Guwahati, commented on the participation of IIT Guwahati start-up Drones Tech Lab, saying that since the inauguration of the Drone Centre at IIT Guwahati, there have been several projects where the use of drones for faster data collection has been sought, whether it is a land survey, river mapping, agriculture, healthcare, or disaster management. Given the tough terrain, IIT Guwahati will make every effort to provide drone-based services to the state and region. The current drone demonstration at the R-day event will help to raise awareness of this technology for the general public's benefit.

Drones Tech Labs' Biswajit Dey expressed his delight at being a part of the Research Park at IIT Guwahati, which has permitted his and his team's participation in the R-day drone display event and other collaborations with the district authorities. We want to give drone services to the region using all of our knowledge and expand our reach to all industries feasible. This will tremendously assist the general public by improving numerous services in less time and with greater efficiency.

Biswajit Dey of Drones Tech Labs highlighted his excitement at being a part of IIT Guwahati's Research Park, which has allowed him and his team to participate in the R-day drone exhibition event as well as other collaborations with the district government. We intend to use all of our skills to provide drone services to the region and expand our reach to all sectors possible. This will benefit the general people greatly by enhancing a variety of services in less time and with higher efficiency.
