So far this fiscal year, the Income Tax Department has issued refunds totaling Rs.1.62 lakh crore to more than 1.79 million taxpayers. This comprises a total of 27.111.40 crore in refunds for the fiscal year 2020-21.
"From 1st April 2021 to 24th January 2022, CBDT issues refunds of over 1,62,448 crore to more than 1.79 crore taxpayers," the Income Tax Department tweeted.

Personal income tax refunds totaling 57,754 crore have been issued to over 1.77 crore organisations, while corporate tax refunds of 1.04 lakh crore have been issued to 2.23 lakh individuals.
