Dharamshala: A magnitude 3.4 earthquake struck 63 kilometres north of Dharamshala in Himachal Pradesh at 21.13 a.m. today, according to the National Center for Seismology. According to NCS data, the earthquakes were moderate and felt in Himachal's Chamba district.
Himachal Pradesh is located in a seismically active area, and the state is periodically shaken by mild tremors. On April 4, 1905, the Himalayan region was struck by the largest earthquake ever recorded. The earthquake, which had a magnitude of 7.8, killed 20,000 people and shook the whole Kangra valley.
