At 1.45 p.m. on Friday, the Kerala High Court will hear Malayalam film actor Dileep's anticipatory bail application.
The hearing in the actor's anticipatory bail request in a case against him and five others for allegedly intimidating officials investigating the sexual assault of a female actress in 2017 was adjourned by the HC on Thursday until February 2.
Justice Gopinath P delayed the case after hearing the prosecution's request for more time to analyse the digital evidence in the investigation.
The hearing was moved up due to fresh digital evidence in the prosecution's possession.
The temporary order prohibiting Dileep's arrest may be extended until the next hearing date, according to Dileep's lawyer. After hearing the prosecution's arguments, the court extended the validity of the interim injunction protecting Dileep from arrest until February 2. Dileep and the other accused had appeared before the investigating officials on January 23, 24, and 25 as per the court's order.
According to the court, director Balachandra Kumar, who had lately made some shocking revelations about the actor, was a friend of Dileep's and had provided some pertinent data to the crime department, which led to the case being registered. P Sivakumar, Dileep's younger brother, and T N Suraj, Dileep's brother-in-law, have also petitioned the court for the same relief.
The purported conspiracy
The case was registered on January 9 after an investigating officer filed a complaint based on a claimed audio tape of Dileep that was aired on a TV station in which the actor was purportedly heard scheming to attack the official.
Sections 116 (abetment), 118 (concealing design to commit offence), 120B (criminal conspiracy), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 34 of the Indian Penal Code were used to charge the actor and five others (criminal act done by several people).
On the night of February 17, 2017, the survivor, a female performer who has acted in Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam films, was kidnapped and allegedly abused in her car for two hours by several of the accused, who forced their way into the vehicle and then escaped in a crowded location. Some of the accused filmed the entire act in order to blackmail the actor.
The case involves ten defendants, seven of whom have been apprehended by authorities. Following that, Dileep was detained and released on bail.
