Asaduddin Owaisi, the leader of the AIMIM party, alleges that shots were fired at his car as he returned to Delhi after campaigning in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. No one was hurt, although he reported his car’s tyres were punctured.
“We are all safe. Alhamdulillah,” he wrote.
The event occurred in Hapur, Uttar Pradesh, near Delhi, at a toll plaza. According to the Hyderabad MP, the shooters dropped their weapons and escaped.
“I was leaving for Delhi after a poll event in Kithaur, Meerut. Three to four rounds of bullets were fired upon my vehicle by two people near Chhajarsi toll plaza; there were a total of 3-4 people, tyres of my vehicle punctured, I left on another vehicle,” Owaisi said.

Mr. Owaisi’s pictures from the toll plaza showed two bullet holes in his white SUV, which is still parked there. The third bullet is said to have struck a tyre. In a different car, the Mr. Owaisi left the location.
While campaigning for the Uttar Pradesh election, which begins on February 10, the AIMIM leader spoke at a public assembly in Meerut.
On the first day of the seven-phase election in India’s most politically important and populous state, western Uttar Pradesh will vote.
Members of the Hindu Sena vandalised the Hyderabad MP’s official residence in New Delhi in September last year. Five Hindu Sena members were later arrested by the Delhi Police.
