The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering Exam, 2022 (GATE 2022) will begin on Saturday, February 5, just days after the Supreme Court denied appeals to postpone the exam. On behalf of the National Coordination Board (NCB)-GATE under the Union ministry of education, the national level examination is jointly conducted by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore and seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) in Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras, and Roorkee.
The computer-based test (CBT) will take place in two shifts: 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 2.30 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. The exam will take place in various sections of the country because of the coronavirus sickness (Covid-19).
Candidates must arrive at the exam centers with their admission cards 90 minutes prior to the start of the exam.
Those taking the exam will be required to follow Covid norms like donning face masks and sanitizing their hands, among other things. Examination centers will also be sanitized.
GATE is a test that assesses a student's overall mastery of numerous undergraduate engineering and scientific disciplines in preparation for entrance to a master's program and employment by some government agencies.
GATE 2022 will be held in three more phases on February 6, 12, and 13.
The Supreme Court bench led by Justice DY Chandrachud dismissed the applications, saying that the postponement would cause "chaos and uncertainty" in the lives of students who had enrolled for the exam.
The petitioners had asked the court to postpone the exam owing to the third wave of Covid-19, but the court stated there were no overriding reasons to supersede regulatory bodies' duties and responsibilities.
According to the bench, "Now everything is opening in the country. We can't play with the career of students. It is a matter of academic policy and these matters should be examined by them. It is very dangerous for the court to enter into this arena."
In this case, two petitions have been filed: one by students/candidates taking the GATE 2022 Exam, and another by Umesh Dhande, who owns an education institute that trains students for GATE and other exams.

The National Coordination Board (NCB)-GATE administers the GATE exam on behalf of the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India. Not only that but several colleges and institutes that do not give MHRD scholarships or assistantships require GATE exam qualification as well. Furthermore, GATE exam scores are used in the recruiting procedure of numerous Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs). IIT Kharagpur will hold GATE 2022 for 29 courses.
On February 5, 6, 12, and 13, 2021, the GATE test will be held online (Computer Based Test (CBT)) at various locations in India as well as in six cities outside India. The GATE exam centers are divided into eight zones, each of which has a list of cities where the national level engineering postgraduate admission exam is held. Furthermore, candidates should be informed that GATE exam scores are only valid for three years from the date of the results publication.
