After participating in the temple’s rites, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the 216-foot-high Statue of Equality on Saturday. PM Modi, dressed in devotional golden attire, sat at the prayer spot before touring the temple grounds, which include replicas of 108 Vishnu temples such as Badrinath, Ayodhya, and Tirumala.

“Today is Vasant Panchami, an auspicious day. I pray to Ma Saraswati that Ramanujacharya’s knowledge will lead the world… and that this idol will inspire future generations. “The life of Ramanujacharya demonstrates that there is no conflict between reforms and our traditions,” Prime Minister Modi stated at the ceremony.

“We have dwait and adwait both in this country as India is one such country where our ancient sages transcended above accepting and rejecting ideas,” PM Modi said.

PM Modi referred to Hyderabad as Bhagyanagar, citing the contributions of Telugu culture from the Kakatiya dynasty to the Pochampalli Saree and the Tollywood film industry. Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, advocated renaming Hyderabad Bhagyanagar, which was supposedly the city’s previous name, ahead of the civic election in 2020.

PM Modi was in Telangana for a half-day visit on Saturday, when he visited the ICRISAT 50th anniversary before heading to the temple. The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, KCR, was not present at any of these events, and his official house stated that he was ill.

The 216-foot-tall Statue of Equality honours Sri Ramanujacharya, a Bhakti Saint from the 11th century who championed equality in all aspects of life, including faith, caste, and creed.

The saint is depicted seated in padmasana with hands folded in the statue. The statue is built of ‘panchaloha,’ a five-metal alloy consisting of gold, silver, copper, brass, and zinc, and is one of the world’s tallest metallic statues in the sitting posture. It is mounted on a 54-foot-high base building called ‘Bhadra Vedi,’ which has levels dedicated to a Vedic digital library and research centre, ancient Indian scriptures, a theatre, and an educational exhibition featuring many of Sri Ramanujacharya’s works.
