On Monday, India’s vaccination campaign against Covid-19 reached a new milestone when it surpassed the 170 crore mark.

According to the government’s CoWIN portal, India has given out over 170 crore vaccination doses, including over 95 crore first doses, 73 crore second doses, and 1.45 crore precaution doses.

“The world’s largest immunization campaign has reached 170 crore people.” In the fight against COVID19, India is showing enormous strength and vigor. “We shall win the battle against the epidemic with PM Narendra Modi Ji’s mantra of ‘Sabka Prayas,’” stated Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya in a tweet.

Earlier in the day, while virtually launching Intensified Mission Indradhanush (IMI) 4.0, Mandaviya discussed the importance of vaccinations in public health and emphasised the accomplishments of the country-wide Covid 19 vaccination programme, which saw nearly 170 crore doses of vaccines distributed.

He stated that India’s achievement has been acknowledged and applauded around the world. He also emphasized the importance of ‘Sabka Prayas’ and ‘Jan Lok Bhaagidaari’ in achieving the country’s aim of universal vaccination. “We will only be able to reach the aim of 100% immunization coverage in the country if the Centre, the States, and the beneficiaries work together,” he remarked.

Mandaviya advised states to collaborate on a multi-level basis with district administrations, panchayats, and urban local governments. He praised the frontline vaccinators’ devotion and perseverance in overcoming challenging terrain and weather to guarantee that vaccine protection reaches the farthest village and home.

The nationwide immunization campaign began on January 16 of last year, with healthcare workers (HCWs) receiving vaccinations in the first phase. Frontline workers (FLWs) have been vaccinated since February 2 of last year.

The next phase of COVID-19 vaccination began on March 1, 2021, for persons over the age of 60 and those aged 45 and up who have certain co-morbid disorders.

The next phase of COVID-19 vaccination commenced from January 3 this year for adolescents in the age group of 15-18 years.

India began administering precaution dose of COVID-19 vaccine to healthcare workers, frontline workers, including personnel deployed for election duty and those aged 60 and above with comorbidities from January 10 amid the country witnessing a spike in coronavirus infections fueled by omicron variant of the virus.
