The police performed a route march in Udupi on Friday in response to the Karnataka High Court's interim decision prohibiting pupils from wearing hijab or saffron scarves in classrooms. In the meantime, the parents of six Muslim girl students protesting for their right to wear hijab at a pre-university college in Udupi have filed a police complaint alleging that their children's personal information is being circulated on social media.
Earlier in the day, the Supreme Court turned down an urgent hearing request for a Special Leave Petition challenging the Karnataka High Court's decision on the hijab petitions. Until the matter is addressed, an appeal has been filed in the Supreme Court contesting the Karnataka High Court's order that students not insist on wearing any cloth on campuses of educational institutions that can incite people. A student submitted a petition seeking a stay on the high court's direction, as well as the proceedings before the three-judge bench, which is hearing the hijab case.
