In a video conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin, US President Joe Biden warned that if Russia invades Ukraine, Washington and its allies would respond “decisively.”
In a phone call with his American counterpart Antony Blinken, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov accused the US of waging a “propaganda campaign” against Moscow.
After the US national security advisor warned of an imminent Russian invasion, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy claimed warnings of Russian invasion were causing “panic.”
According to the White House, US President Joe Biden spoke with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin over the phone for more than an hour on Saturday, encouraging him to de-escalate the situation with Ukraine and engage in diplomacy. The request came just hours after America evacuated most of its embassy in Kyiv and removed a tiny force of 140 Florida National Guard troops from the country, warning that a Russian invasion might happen in days, if not hours.
“President Biden was clear with President Putin that while the United States remains prepared to engage in diplomacy, in full coordination with our Allies and partners, we are equally prepared for other scenarios,” a White House readout of the call said.
