Prior to the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections, Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi promised 1 lakh government jobs to the youth on Monday. The CM made the announcement in Chandigarh.

“On being voted to power, we will provide one lakh government jobs to the youth of the state. Education is very important for the development of Punjab but it is very expensive in today’s time,” Channi stated.

We don't believe in making false promises to please people. Congress party has made promises which are realistic and doable. Free education, free health, 1 lakh jobs in the first cabinet meeting and upliftment of women and people without roofs are some of them. pic.twitter.com/AG5Wdpc0ew

“Atta-dal (Flour-lentils) will only fill the stomach. But for the development of Punjab, education is very important. But it is very expensive to study in private institutions. Hence, we are educated because our parents worked very hard. So, we have decided to ensure that education will be free in government schools,” Channi said.

Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi has also stated that all government schools and colleges will be free of charge. He said that he would come up with a scholarship scheme for the general category. Scholarships will be arranged in private schools and colleges.

“Scholarship schemes for backward class students, which were scrapped during the Akali government will be restarted. Poor students under the general category and those who come from farmer families will also get scholarships. There will be fewer regulations on fees,” Channi added.

For government and private job holders, as well as those who aspire to study or work abroad, we will provide loans and establish a guarantee mechanism. There will also be plans in place to make it easier for such applicants to travel abroad. He stated.

“People don’t have money for operations,” Channi said of the state’s healthcare. We’ll have something similar to what’s available in other countries.”

He also said, “In six months, I shall ensure that there is a solid roof over every poor man’s head. This is my commitment. Kachchi chhatth (temporary roof) will be converted to pukki chatth (permanent roof).”

Punjab Chief Minister who is running for election in Barnala district’s Bhadaur Assembly constituency has also been named as the party’s Chief Ministerial Candidate for the upcoming elections.

Punjab will go to the polls on February 20. The counting of votes will take place on March 10.
