Prime Minister Narendra Modi today slammed the Congress and Rahul Gandhi over an incident in Punjab in 2014 in which his helicopter was held up because “Yuvraj (prince)” was flying to Amritsar, he said.

When the incident occurred, PM Modi said he was in Punjab campaigning for the national election after being named the BJP’s presumptive Prime Minister.

“I was named PM candidate. I had to visit Pathankot and Himachal to campaign. But my chopper was not allowed to fly to Pathankot because their Yuvraj (prince) was also in Amritsar. He was only a Congress MP. Such misuse of power used to happen for one family. The Congress has a habit of not allowing the opposition to work,” PM Modi said at a rally in Jalandhar.

The PM's taunt was significant on a day when Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi’s helicopter was denied permission to take off from Chandigarh, reportedly due to a “no-fly zone” imposed in the wake of the Prime Minister’s visit. The Chief Minister was on his way to Hoshiarpur, Punjab, for Rahul Gandhi’s election rally. Charanjit Singh Channi reacted to this by saying, “I am a Chief Minister, not a terrorist.” Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi’s helicopter was allowed to land in Hoshiarpur.

After attempting to obstruct his administration and administer it by remote control, the Prime Minister accused the Congress of “humiliating Captain Amarinder Singh.” When PM Modi made the statements, Amarinder Singh, who was removed as Chief Minister by the Congress in September, was on stage. For the upcoming Punjab election, the former Chief Minister has joined forces with the BJP.

After a security breach in Ferozepur district last month, PM Modi was conducting his first rally in Punjab.

PM Modi also criticized the Congress-led Punjab administration, claiming that he was unable to visit Jalandhar’s Devi Talab Mandir because local authorities were unable to make the necessary arrangements.

By demanding evidence of the 2016 surgical strikes, PM Modi accused the Congress of “speaking the language of Pakistan.”

PM Modi stated that the Congress government’s policies had destroyed the industry in Punjab, and that job possibilities have gone. “Punjab’s business and industry have been taken over by the mafia. We will provide companies and businessmen the freedom to operate without fear.”

PM Modi says there will be a Nava Punjab

PM Modi expressed confidence in the BJP’s victory in the state, stating the country is going forward with its promise of a new India, which will be fulfilled when there is a “Nava (new) Punjab.”

That’ll be the case “Nava Punjab, a land where traditions and development coexist, a land free of debt and brimming with chances, a land where every Dalit is treated with respect and equal opportunity at every turn. A Nava Punjab where corruption and mafia have no place and the rule of law reigns supreme, “PM Modi stated.
