Unlike in Delhi NCR, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) will hold its annual Raising Day parade in Jammu & Kashmir on March 19. The major guest for the ceremony would most likely be MoS home Nityanand Rai, who is posted in Jammu and Kashmir and is involved in all anti-terror operations in Kashmir.
The CRPF decided in January to set a date for the Raising Day, which had previously fluctuated according on the availability of the chief guest. The name of Raising Day was likewise altered to 'CRPF Day.'
According to an official announcement, the DG's Parade will kick off the festivities on March 16, followed by the Station Officer's Dinner. On March 19, the CRPF will have a wreath-laying ceremony at the Martyrs' Memorial, as well as the CRPF Day Parade, which will be followed by cultural and 'Badakhana' programmes, in which all top officials will share a meal with all levels' officers.
"Necessary directives may kindly be sent to those responsible for making necessary preparations of Parade Ground, (Jammu) Accommodation, Logistics and Security, etc. for above stated programmes as per needed specifications," said the communication.
This time, the BSF moved their Raising Day from Delhi-NCR to Jaisalmer.
Though the CRPF has not been given an explanation for the change, sources say that because there are so many personnel, holding the Raising Day in Jammu, as DG CRPF Kuldiep Singh has decided, will send a positive message.
"This is the first time a paramilitary organisation has moved its Raising Day from Delhi-NCR to Jammu and Kashmir. Terrorism has taken hold in the UT since Article 370 was repealed. Pelting and infiltration are at an all-time low. A senior CRPF official added, "It would be best to celebrate the day there to send a positive message, especially from the place where the force has the largest deployment and maximum operations."
Meanwhile, when asked if the venue would be changed every year, the official stated that no such decision has been made thus far.
The day will now be known as 'CRPF Day,' and the parade held to commemorate the anniversary will be known as the 'CRPF Day Parade,' rather than the 'Anniversary Day Parade.'
The CRPF is the country's sole paramilitary organisation that has diverged from its initial date of formation, choosing to commemorate the occasion every year on one of four important days.
In the past, the date ranged from March to December, depending on weather conditions and the availability of the primary guests.
