Arvind Kejriwal, the Delhi chief minister, on Friday, referred to himself as the "world's sweetest terrorist" in response to claims that he supported the separatist movement in Punjab, which will vote on Sunday. The national convener of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for labeling him a terrorist during a news conference.
Kejriwal said, “All these politicians have come together to allege that I have been making a plan to divide the country into two parts, and I will be the Prime Minister of one such portion. This is hilarious.”
He asked what were the Centre’s security agencies doing until now as the political leaders labeled him a terrorist. “What were agencies during the Congress and BJP's tenure doing till now? Why did they not arrest me? This is such a humorous matter," he further added.
During the press conference, the AAP national convener said further.
He also lambasted Modi for raids by central authorities at his home and office, claiming that nothing was discovered.
He also took a shot at former aide Kumar Vishwas, who claimed in an interview that Kejriwal was willing to accept support from the fringe and separatist groups in order to become Punjab's chief minister.
Delhi chief minister said, “100 years back, Bhagat Singh was called a terrorist by the British & I’m his staunch follower. Today, history is repeating itself. “I must be the world’s sweetest terrorist, a terrorist who provides schools, hospitals, electricity, roads, water.”
"One day, he (Kejriwal) told me he would either become the chief minister (of Punjab)...or the first prime minister of an independent nation (Khalistan)," he said.
“A poet said that I would divide the country into two. After him, Rahul Gandhi raised the same allegation followed by Prime Minister Modi. I thank this poet for apprehending me as the central agencies could not.” Kejriwal said.
The Delhi Chief Minister further accused Congress and the BJP of treating national security issues lightly. He said, “I am a terrorist for these people. I am a disciple of Bhagat Singh. A century ago, the British had called Bhagat Singh a terrorist. And now, history is repeating itself as all these corrupt politicians are calling Bhagat Singh's disciple a terrorist.”
Raghav Chadha, the leader of the AAP, had before blasted opposition political parties for attempting to "defame" Arvind Kejriwal. “The malicious, unfounded, fabricated and inflammatory insinuations made by Kumar Vishwas are not just defamatory but is redolent of promoting hatred, feeling of hostility in society and against the AAP…. In view thereof it is submitted that any channel circulates/publishes the video or provides a platform to disseminate the same, we shall be found forced to take stringent legal action, which shall include the commission of offences of aiding/abetting him.” Chadha tweeted.
