The city of Mumbai has been chosen to host the 2023 International Olympic Committee (IOC) session. The IOC meeting in Mumbai might see the election of the host country for the 2030 Winter Olympics as well as the sports programmed for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

The meeting is expected to take place in May or June 2023.

The yearly gathering of the committee’s members, of whom there are 101 voting members and 45 honorary members, is known as an IOC session. The members discuss and vote on major issues affecting the worldwide Olympic movement, such as the adoption or change of the Olympic Charter, the election of IOC members and office bearers, and the selection of the Olympic Games host city.

Mumbai earned 99 percent of the votes in favour of its candidacy from the delegates present at today’s session in Beijing. Seventy-five people voted in favour of the city’s candidacy.

For the first time since 1983, India has been selected to host the prestigious IOC session. After that, the meeting was conducted in Delhi.

Nita Ambani, chairman of Reliance Industries and an IOC member, expressed her joy at the Olympic movement’s return to India after a 40-year absence. She expressed her gratitude to the International Olympic Committee for entrusting India with the honour of hosting the session in Mumbai.

She went on to say that hosting the IOC session in Mumbai would be a huge step forward for India’s Olympic ambitions and the beginning of a new era for sport in the country.

Dr Narinder Batra, President of the Indian Olympic Association, said Mumbai’s election marked the beginning of a new era for Indian sport, with the long-term ambition of hosting the Olympic Games.

Dr. Batra also stated the country’s goals and acknowledged the ambitious goals. He went on to say that India was on an exciting journey and that he wanted the Olympic movement to play a vital role in helping the country’s next generation achieve a brighter future.

One of the first steps to showcasing India’s unprecedented athletic capabilities will be to provide a really memorable IOC Session in Mumbai in 2023, with a strong emphasis on youth potential, sustainability, and innovation,” he added.
