Shatrughan Sinha, an actor-turned-politician, was the latest leader to criticize Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi for his controversial "don't let bhaiyas from UP, Bihar, or Delhi enter here" remark. "Though CM, Punjab Charanjit Channi has already clarified and Priyanka Gandhi has already supported the clarification. Public figures must watch their choice of words and language."

After quitting the BJP in 2019, the 76-year-old leader joined the Congress."Being a Bihari Babu, it hasn't just upset me but hurt many people from other states, UP, Bihar & Delhi too.”

Though Punjab's Chief Minister, @CHARANJITCHANNI, has already addressed the situation, and @priyankagandhi has already expressed her support for the clarification. Our friend Channi, who is currently the CM, must, however, know how to conduct himself as a public figure. Words and phrases used by public personalities must be carefully considered.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, among others, have reacted angrily to the Punjab chief minister's remark.

Manish Tewari, a Congress MP, also slammed the remarks.

Shatrugan Sinha also commented for the same on the Twitter.

Channi may be heard stating in a video that has gone viral on social media," Priyanka is the daughter-in-law of Punjab. She is a Punjabi. Don’t let bhaiyas from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Delhi enter here (Punjab).” Standing by his side, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra can be seen smiling and nodding in accord.

Later, he clarified his statement, claiming that it had been misinterpreted. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, the Congress national secretary, defended Channi's comments, accusing the parties of 'distorting' it.

Channi, who was chastised across the political spectrum for his statements, addressed the situation earlier on Thursday, claiming that his words had been misinterpreted.

"My statement is being misconstrued. All migrant workers who came to Punjab till date, have toiled and taken it on path to development. We have only love for them, nobody can change it," Channi said

"I was talking about people who come from outside and create disruptions here. Punjab is as much of the people of UP-Bihar, Rajasthan and elsewhere, who come here and work, as much as it is ours. So, it is not right to present it in any other manner,"

"All migrants who have come to Punjab shed their sweat and blood for the state's development. Our relationship with them is like one of nail and skin. For people from UP, Bihar, Rajasthan and other places who come to Punjab for work, Punjab is theirs as much as it is ours. Therefore, it is not correct to show this in a wrong manner. Migrants are dear to us." Channi went on and said further.

A complaint has been filed against Channi.

A complaint has been filed against Channi at a local police station in Patna for his allegedly "insulting" comment.

The Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha's National Vice-President, Manish Kumar Singh, filed a complaint with the Kadam Kuan Police Station.

The youth BJP leader stated in his complaint that the Punjab Chief Minister's remarks regarding individuals from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Delhi damaged his feelings, causing him to make the complaint.

Manish Kumar Singh, a young BJP politician, made the claim in his complaint. "The Punjab CM made a controversial comment where he made an inflammatory comment about not allowing people from UP and Bihar to come into the state. This comment has hurt my sentiments and respect. Cognizance should be taken of this comment."

The scandal erupted just days before the Punjab elections, which will be held in a single phase on Sunday for 117 assembly seats.
