Two individuals were taken to the hospital on Saturday after their helicopter crashed into the water off the coast of Florida.
On Twitter, Miami Beach police said they got a call about the crash around 1:10 p.m. (1810 GMT).
“Police and "MiamiBeachFire", as well as many partner agencies, responded to the site,” according to the tweet. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has also issued a statement in response to the accident.
“Onboard, there were three people.” Two people were taken to the hospital, authorities said, and they were in “stable condition.”
A video attached to the tweet shows a helicopter crashing into the Atlantic Ocean, not far from people swimming and sunbathing on the packed beach.
According to the footage shows the helicopter loosing engine power, according to Mary Schiavo, the former inspector general of the US Department of Transportation.
“At work here, there were two important things,” she said. “For starters, the pilot had received training And two, I was able to keep some control of the plane because it appears that if your engines go out, you have nowhere to go but down, hopefully in a controlled way.”
She claimed that, based on the video, it appeared that the pilot was able to guide the helicopter away from beachgoers even as it was falling.
The FAA said the helicopter crashed due to “unknown reasons.”
Together with the National Transportation Safety Board, the aviation authority announced it would investigate the tragedy.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are conducting an investigation. The inquiry will be led by the NTSB, which will offer further details, according to the statement.
Beachgoer Sean Adams, who was visiting Miami Beach with his wife from Las Vegas, described the crash as a “harrowing event” to affiliate WPLG.
The helicopter went “back and forth over the deep sea numerous times,” according to Adams, an aircraft mechanic. The aircraft began to tip after it crashed, and “the entire beach flocked to the scene,” he claimed.
“These are the sorts of things you never want to see or discuss,” he continued. “It was 50 yards from the beach, right in the middle of it all.” It was incredible that no one was injured.”
As the passengers were being taken out of the helicopter, Adams claimed the pilot evacuated the plane and the passengers were “slightly unconscious” and “in shock.”
Ana Diaz, another traveller, was swimming in the ocean when she heard her relatives beckoning her to come to shore as they saw the chopper land, according to WPLG.
Diaz, who was in Miami with her Colombian family, said she was about six or eight metres away when the crash happened. The crash scenario, she said, was like something out of a “movie,” with tremendously loud noises when the plane hit the ocean.
Diaz told WPLG, “I was so afraid and I was swimming towards my family.” “I was quite concerned about it, and it was a difficult time for me.”
