In the third phase of the ongoing Assembly elections, Uttar Pradesh saw voter participation of 21.18 percent till 11 a.m., while Punjab, which is voting in a single phase today, saw a little lower voter turnout of 17.77 percent until 11 a.m.

In Uttar Pradesh's third phase of voting, voters will go to the polls in 59 constituencies distributed over 16 districts. Punjab, which is governed by Congress, will also vote today. Punjab will hold voting from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. It will be between the hours of 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. in UP.

Elections are being held in seven phases in Uttar Pradesh. In the third phase, 627 candidates are running for 59 assembly seats across 16 districts, with approximately 2.15 crore people eligible to vote.

Hathras, Firozabad, Etah, Kasganj, Mainpuri, Farrukhabad, Kannauj, Etawah, Auraiya, Kanpur Dehat, Kanpur Nagar, Jalaun, Jhansi, Lalitpur, Hamirpur, and Mahoba are the districts where voting will take place.

Akhilesh Yadav, the leader of the Samajwadi Party, is running for the Karhal assembly seat, which is also up for election today. S P Singh Baghel, a Union minister, is the BJP's candidate for the seat.

On March 10, voters in both states, as well as Uttarakhand, Goa, and Manipur, will be counted.

According to Election Commission data, the average polling percentage until 9 a.m. was 22.62 percent in Hathras, 24.30 percent in Firozabad, 22.52 percent in Kasganj, 24.23 percent in Etah, 24.45 percent in Mainpuri, 19.71 percent in Farrukhabad, 21.98 percent in Kannauj, 19.83 percent in Etawah, 18.51 percent in Auraiya, 19.84 percent in Kanpur Dehat. Kanpur Nagar had 16.87 percent, Jalaun had 21.72 percent, Jhansi had 19.17 percent, Lalitpur had 25.71 percent, Hamirpur had 23.30 percent, and Mahoba had 23.48 percent.

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, who is running for the Karhal Assembly constituency, is one of the crucial candidates whose destiny will be decided in the third phase of elections. S P Singh Baghel, a Union minister, is the BJP's candidate for the seat. The election will also determine the destiny of Shivpal Singh Yadav, the SP chief's uncle, who is running from his customary Jaswantnagar seat.
