Gangubai Kathiawadi, starring Alia Bhatt, has lead to legal trouble after a Congress MLA filed a petition to modify the film’s name. The Supreme Court recommended that the film’s title be changed on Wednesday.

The film, directed by ace filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali, has found itself in serious legal trouble after Congress MLA Amin Patel filed a petition in the Bombay High Court on Tuesday, claiming that it misrepresents Kamathipura as a red-light district while portraying the Kathiawadi community in a negative light.

Alia plays the title role in the film, which is based on Hussain Zaidi’s book Mafia Queens of Mumbai. The plot centres around a girl who is sold into prostitution by a suitor and how she rises to prominence in the underworld and the Kamathipua red-light district. On February 25, the film will be released in theatres.

Ajay Devgn, Vijay Raaz, Seema Pahwa, and Shantanu Maheshwari also star in the film.

Meanwhile, in a recent interview, actor Alia Bhatt discussed how she handles such situations. “I am unconcerned about any controversy or criticism. Nothing seems to annoy me past a certain point. Of course, I believe that even a small portion of a film retains a certain originality. It makes no difference whether the movie is good or awful. After the screening, the audience makes the final selection.

Anything that occurs before or after this point will have no effect on the outcome “Alia said this to on Tuesday in the national capital while promoting her film.

Sanjay’s previous films, such as Goliyon Ka Raasleela Ram-Leela and Padmaavat, were released under various titles. Padmaavat was planned to be released as Padmavati, while Goliyon Ka Raasleela Ram-Leela was supposed to be released as Ram-Leela.

Several lawsuits have been filed in various courts to prevent the publication of the film based on the life of the Gangubai, a political leader in Mumbai’s Kamathipura district.

Alia Bhatt plays the lead in the film, which is based on Hussain Zaidi’s book “Mafia Queens of Mumbai.”

Meanwhile, the Bombay High Court denied three petitions asking for the phrases “Kamathipura,” “Kathiawadi,” and “China” to be removed from the Hindi film “Gangubai Kathiawadi.” Two public interest litigations (PILs) – brought by city MLA Amin Patel and one Hiten Mehta – and another petition submitted by Shraddha Surve, a resident of the Kamathipura district in south Mumbai – were being heard by a division bench led by Chief Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice M S Karnik.

Babu Ravji Shah has also sued the filmmaker, stating that the film is derogatory to his mother. He has appealed a Bombay High Court ruling that the film’s release should not be delayed.
