The Delhi Cabinet has authorized a plan to build an e-waste eco-park in the city to disassemble, sort, and recycle electronic garbage.
A reconditioning market, which would sell electronic products such as computers, mobile phones, chargers, and batteries, is also expected to open in the park. According to a statement from the Delhi government, the eco-park will provide training and resources to persons in the informal sector in order to "groom them as formal recyclers." “Cooperation with the informal sector will help to ensure availability of e-waste for processing in the formal sector and will contribute to making the formal units economically viable.”
While attending a conference Sisodia said, "Two important decisions have been taken in the cabinet meeting. The first decision pertains to the e-waste park. As the use of electronic gazettes is increasing, e-waste is also increasing. Its management system is not there yet. Delhi government will set up the country's first e-waste eco-park, where recycling, re-manufacturing work will be done."
Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia told a press conference that roughly 2 lakh tonnes of e-waste are generated in Delhi each year, but that it is handled by recyclers in the informal sector. Waste is expected to be recycled in a safe manner at the environmental park. It will be built on around 20 acres of land.
The plan has been approved by the Cabinet, and a consultant will be recruited soon, according to Sisodia.
He said, "The park will be built in 20 acres of land. Delhi produces 2 lakh tonnes of e-waste every year. According to the guidelines of the Government of India, we will start this in Delhi. A consultant appointment has been approved for this."
According to the government's announcement, e-waste collection centres would be put up in 12 zones throughout the city. Electronic items and electronic components that can be sold to refurbishers will be bought back at specified rates at the eco-park.
Sisodia elaborated on the Delhi Film Policy 2022, saying, "We'll bring Film policy 2022 for better branding of Delhi and associate our residents through films. ₹50 crore film fund will be introduced to support film producers. This will be India's most progressive Film Policy, aiming to create jobs and boost the economy."
He emphasized the goal of the policy, saying, "The Delhi government has today approved the Delhi Film Policy 2022. It has 4 big objectives - association of the people of Delhi with the policy, making the national capital a brand for shooting location, turning the city into a hub for the production of domestic as well as international films, and creating jobs for the people."
