In the first T20I, India defeated Sri Lanka by 62 runs at the Ekana Sports City in Lucknow. The hosts take a 1-0 lead in the series with this victory.
The Indian team, captained by Rohit Sharma, won the first match of the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka by 62 runs in Lucknow. Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer were the architects of India’s stunning win, as the duo ruled the roost and led the team to a 199/2 total in 20 overs.
In 20 overs, Sri Lanka managed to score 137/6. Ishan and Rohit Sharma ended up getting the hosts off to a flying start after being given the opportunity to bat first. They added 111 runs for the first wicket. Shreyas Iyer joined Ishan in the middle after Rohit was dismissed for 44(32) by Lahiru Kumara in the final delivery of the 12th over. Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka dismissed Ishan for 89(56) runs. Iyer scored a score of 57(28) not out, and Jadeja added three runs (4).
Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Venkatesh Iyer each took two wickets for India, while Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravindra Jadeja each took one wicket. India was able to experiment with Venkatesh Iyer’s medium-pace and rookie Deepak Hooda’s off breaks thanks to the fast growing asking rate. Venkatesh took 2 for 36 in his three overs, while Hooda failed to take a wicket in his three overs.
Yuzvendra Chahal also surpassed Jasprit Bumrah as India’s highest wicket-taker in T20 Internationals.
The second T20 International will be played in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh, on February 26.
Rohit Sharma on Ishan Kishan
“When you play a kind of support that we play, these things are bound to happen. I know the mindset and ability Ishan has and it was very very pleasing to watch him bat today. He constructed the innings after six overs, that was more pleasing. It was not about coming and hitting the ball, it was also about finding the gaps,” Rohit stated.
