The ED detained Malik on Wednesday on accusations of money laundering in the case against underworld don and fugitive Dawood Ibrahim and his associates.
The ED officers arrived at Malik's home in the morning on Wednesday and began a search operation there. Malik was handed a notice after the search and requested to attend the officers to their office.
Malik was arrested around 2:45 p.m. on Wednesday for refusing to cooperate with the investigation. Malik was subsequently brought before a special PMLA court, where he was remanded in ED custody till March 3rd.
Nawab Malik arrest:
1. Last week, multiple raids were carried out across Mumbai, including at the home of Haseena Parkar, Dawood Ibrahim's sister. The fugitive's brother, Iqbal Kaskar, was apprehended last week, while Haseena Parkar's son, Alishah Parkar, was questioned by the ED on Monday. Kaskar's close associates, who were arrested in the extortion case, were questioned and their Thane homes were searched. The ED is also looking into Salim Qureshi alias Salim Fruit, who is the brother-in-law of Chota Shakeel, the Dawood gang's top operative. He was interrogated for nine hours by the ED and could be called again.
2. It was recently revealed that Dawood Ibrahim's gang is still active in the country, conducting terror operations and attempting to disrupt law and order. According to sources, Dawood Ibrahim and his close friend Chota Shakeel, as well as his brother Anees Ibrahim, operate hawala operations, betting syndicates, and illegal real estate-related companies in Mumbai and other cities. Extortion is another activity carried out by the gang.
3. Following the raids, it was reported that the ED might investigate a senior politician who had previous dealings with people linked to Dawood Ibrahim's gang.
4. The ED raids were in response to the National Investigation Agency's (NIA) recent filing of a case against Dawood Ibrahim, which prompted the ED to file an ECIR and begin investigations. After realising that Dawood Ibrahim was spreading terror across India, the NIA filed a case against him under the UAPA. Dawood Ibrahim allegedly used hawala methods to fund people working for him to cause trouble across India, according to NIA authorities.
5. According to the NIA FIR, D-Company has established a special unit for attacking eminent personalities in India, led by Dawood Ibrahim, Ibrahim Kaskar, and his aforementioned associates. Politicians, businessmen, and others fall under this category. According to the FIR, the gang intends to employ explosives, firearms, and other dangerous weapons to encourage and trigger situations that could lead to unrest in many parts of India, including Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, and other major cities.
6. The ED has also launched an investigation into extortion cases filed by Thane police against Iqbal Kaskar and his associates in 2017. Kaskar was deported in 2003 and has lived in Mumbai since then. He is suspected of running the Dawood gang's operations in Mumbai and other cities on behalf of his brother, who is based in Karachi and collaborates with Pakistani intelligence services and terrorist groups.
7. The ED is looking into Nawab Malik's deal with Dawood Ibrahim's aide, Sardar Shahvali Khan, and Haseena Parkar's bodyguard, Salim Patel. Nawab Malik's son had purchased a prime property piece of roughly 2.8 acres for Rs 30 lakhs through a corporation. Devendra Fadnavis, the Leader of the Opposition, has claimed that Nawab Malik bought property worth crores from Sardar Shahvali Khan and Salim Patel for about Rs 30 lakhs. Officials from the ED are also looking into Nawab Malik's and his associates' other business operations. According to sources, the CIA has major evidence against Malik and could take action against him.
8. According to sources, Alishah Parkar, Haseena Parkar's son, told the ED on Monday that Nawab Malik had business dealings with his mother about their properties. On the basis of this statement, the ED took action against Nawab Malik on Wednesday and arrested him. According to investigations, Malik paid Haseena Parkar Rs 55 lakh in cash and Rs 5 lakh in check for the sale. The ED claims that by paying Haseena Parkar for an illegally occupied piece of the site, Malik was financially assisting the D Company. In exchange for the property, Nawab Malik provided funding to Dawood Ibrahim's terror network through Haseena Parkar.
9. Nawab Malik was remanded in the custody of the ED until March 3 by a special PMLA court.
10. Nawab Malik's resignation was demanded by the BJP. "There is a law that specifies that if a minister is facing criminal accusations, he should be dismissed from his position. Malik should be removed from his position or asked to resign "Chandrakant Patil, the Maharashtra BJP chairman, stated.
11. Following his arrest, Nawab Malik stated that he will not submit. "I'm going to fight and win." In a tweet, Nawab Malik stated, "Won't bow down." "Main jhukega nahi!" (won't bow down) tweeted his office.
