The Aam Aadmi Party appeared to be on track for a landslide victory in Punjab, with most of its candidates winning seats that were previously considered Congress strongholds. As the counting of votes entered the third hour on Thursday, both the Congress’s top leaders in Punjab, Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and state unit commander Navjot Singh Sidhu, are trailing. Rana Kanwarpal Singh, the Speaker of the Punjab Legislative Assembly, is also trailing from his constituency.
The Aam Aadmi Party is leading in a majority of seats in Punjab, with Bhagwant Mann, the chief ministerial candidate, leading, while Former Chief Minister Amarinder Singh is also trailing in his Patiala Urban constituency.
Counting of votes for the 117-seat Punjab election 2022 is underway. The Aam Aadmi Party is leading in 89 seats, Indian National Congress in 15 and SAD in 7.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), led by Arvind Kejriwal, has emerged as a major rival to the Congress in Punjab. The Shiromani Akali Dal and former Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh’s Punjab Lok Congress, which has allied with the BJP, are among the other electoral contenders.
Various exit polls predict that Bhagwant Mann of the AAP would replace Charanjit Singh Channi as Punjab’s next Chief Minister. The voter turnout in the state was 71.95 percent. Compared to the voting percentages in the three previous assembly elections, this was the lowest in Punjab.
In its second attempt, Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Admi Party won Punjab, giving the eight-year-old party its second state after Delhi.
“This indicates that AAP is the natural and national replacement to the Congress,” Raghav Chadha stated.
Baljinder Kaur, the sitting MLA from Talwandi Sabo for the AAP, is outperforming Jeetmohinder Singh Sidhu of the SAD. ‘Punjab has triumphed.’ ‘Punjab has been looking for a badlaav for a long time…this badlaav has finally arrived,’ Baljinder said.
During the last five years, she has been a close confidante of the AAP’s Delhi leadership. Her name had previously been mentioned as a possible AAP chief ministerial candidate, and she is seen as one of the party’s safest bets in Punjab. She is also one of the AAP’s 12 female candidates.
