Bhagwant Mann, the Punjab CM-designate, will resign as a Lok Sabha member from Sangrur today. He has served in the Lok Sabha twice, representing the state’s Sangrur parliamentary constituency.
“Going to Delhi today, I am resigning from the post of Sangrur MP. The people of Sangrur have given me so much love for so many years, thank you. Now that I have the opportunity to serve the whole of Punjab, I promise the people of Sangrur that in a few months their voice will be heard again in the Lok Sabha,” Bhagwant Mann tweeted.
Today, Mann arrived at Parliament and expressed his regret for quitting. Mann will meet with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla today after his final address and submit his resignation as a Lok Sabha Member of Parliament.
On March 16, the 48-year-old AAP leader will be sworn in as Punjab’s chief minister. The ceremony will take place in Nawanshahr district’s Khatkar Kalan, the legendary independence fighter Bhagat Singh’s home town.
Bhagwant Mann has invited Arvind Kejriwal, the AAP’s national convener and Delhi Chief Minister, to his swearing-in event.
Mann also stated that he will make “historic judgments that have never been made before.” “, he added “People from all around Punjab are invited to attend the ceremony, where they will pay honour to Bhagat Singh. We will have a good cabinet, and historic decisions will be made that have never been made before. As a result, you’ll have to wait.”
In the 117-member Punjab Assembly, the AAP won 92 seats. It defeated several veterans, including outgoing chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi, SAD patriarch Parkash Singh Badal, and former chief minister Amarinder Singh, and its candidates crushed the Congress and the SAD-BSP coalition.
